Kent,CT

Kent,CT here in Litchfield county is one amazing small town.  Country, yet sophisticated at every turn. Today I traveled to Kent to take in the street fair which was pedaling with excitement. Everywhere you turned, you noticed happy people, along with the New Yorkers who love to visit the area. The street scape was buzzing with excitement. Though this was more of a window shopping opportunity for me, it was still great to spend time in this charming small town.

As an art fan, I toured many art galleries. The art that was on display was superb and beyond any of my wildest dreams. Many of these art galleries were in barn like structures which further captured the essence of the photography that was on

display, mainly that of landscapes and rural life. My favorite of the art galleries was The Morrison Gallery which hosts contemporary art in New England. This gallery was the most impressive. Hidden behind main street, behind the bustling shops, you found yourself in a barn like structure. This wasn’t anything small. Once you walked in, you felt at ease with the world as the wide open space whimsically whisked you away to the amazing art that was on display. Clean, crisp, cool, open and natural were all words to describe this gallery. If you don’t pay attention to the time, you could get caught up in the essence of it all. As your walking around, you’ll find so many different art forms that will leave you in suspense.

This is art at it’s best. At the end of your tour, you’ll leave astonished at what you have just been through. Though don’t astonished enough to not leave your name in their guest book.

Continuing on my tour of Kent, which I have been lucky enough to have been to many times in my life, I ran into a couple of hikers who looked as though they just made their way into town from the nearby Appalachian Trail. Now, as a hiker myself, I know were a bit…well, free spirited I guess you could say. I caught up with these folks as they decided to take a

jump on some metal cows that were displayed fantastically by Main street. Well, their experience was short lived. The sun had heated them up too much and the burning sensation was too much to handle.  I made sure to make a mental note of this, don’t climb metal animals when the sun is beaming on them.

Jazz camp

This time of year is particularly very popular in Kent. The Litchfield Jazz Festival takes center stage. “Kent has that Jazz” they call it. 30 free concerts in Kent presented by the Litchfield Jazz Festival that leads up to the Jazz Fest Weekend August 6th-August 8th which takes place at the Kent School. You’ll want to be in attendance for this event! Friends of the Festival opening night gala takes place from 5:45-7:15PM on Friday August 6th. Saturday and Sunday events kick off at noon with performers like Gerald Clayton Trio, Jane Bunnett & the Spirits of Havana and Denise Thimes.  For those who have been following me, you know that I am a proud supporter of this event and have been following it for quite some time. After all, what could be better than spending a day or night in the foothills listening to Jazz?  Be sure to check out their website for further details!
